The RIZ N WASH launch story — from one washing machine to 10,000 orders
How RIZ N WASH went from a single washing machine in a Sector 43 studio to serving 10,000+ households across Gurugram. A founder's honest recap.

This isn't a case study. It's a recap of how RIZ N WASH — literally spelled R-I-Z N W-A-S-H, and no we're not a face-wash brand — went from one Bosch front-loader in a rented Sector 43 studio to serving 10,000+ households across Gurugram in two years.
We started in early 2024 because our own laundry was terrible. The neighbourhood dhobi lost a favourite shirt every third order, and the app-based aggregators cost twice as much for the same finish. We thought: how hard can it be to just do this well?
Turns out: harder than expected. Our first month, we had exactly 4 customers — all friends. Our second month, 11. Our third month, an Ananya from Sector 43 tweeted about us, and we had 50 orders in a week. That's how RIZ N WASH found its first hundred households — one WhatsApp reply at a time.
By month six we could have franchised. Instead we bought a second washer, hired one more runner and stayed put. The reason: every laundry chain we admired had gone downhill after 15 branches. Consistency dies at scale. We'd rather do 10,000 orders exceptionally well than 100,000 orders okay.
So today we're still one studio, five runners, and three contract dry-cleaners we've hand-picked for silk and formal wear. Same people fold your shirts on order #10,000 as on order #100.
Three things. First, communication beats everything — the WhatsApp reply speed matters more to customers than the actual wash quality (though the wash quality had better be excellent too). Second, subscriptions are magic — the 40% of our revenue that comes from weekly plans is our most stable business. Third, the best marketing is doing right by the customer when something goes wrong; a properly-handled ruined shirt has generated more referrals than any Instagram campaign.
Two more studios in 2027 — one for South Gurugram, one for New Gurugram. Same standards, same team hiring, same WhatsApp number that always goes to a founder. We'll expand when it's boring, not before.
